Disambig This article is about the main series character. For the Sunrider Academy character, see Kayto Shields (Academy).

Kayto Shields is the protagonist and player character in Sunrider, Sunrider: Liberation Day, and Sunrider 4: The Captain's Return.

He is a military space captain known throughout the galaxy for his tactical and leadership prowess, stubborn determination, and a knack for pulling out a miraculous victory even against insurmountable odds. His many victories and accomplishments, especially the Battle of Far Port and later the Battle of World Fountain makes him possibly the greatest warship captain the galaxy has ever seen.

Description[ | ]

Kayto Shields was the captain of the Ceran Space Force assault carrier Sunrider until its destruction following the events of the Liberation Day Massacre. Assumed dead, Kayto then went into exile together with Sola di Ryuvia, spending the next six years working a mining job at Tydaria. Meanwhile, Asaga vi Ryuvia, having assumed her role as Queen of Ryuvia, ordered and overseen the construction of a new flagship for her kingdom's navy.

After the attempted assassination of Sola by her uncle and sworn enemy Crow Harbor, Kayto went out of exile and was appointed captain of Ryuvia's flagship by Asaga, naming the vessel the Maray, after his little sister who was killed during the PACT invasion of Cera. Kayto then sets out on his goal to find and eliminate Crow Harbor before he can muster his forces and subjugate the galaxy with the advanced Lost Technology he wields.

Personality[ | ]

You make the most important decisions for him, such as whether to fight one way or another at certain points, and some other pertaining to moral and political situations. These decisions can impact the relationship with the other members of the crew, and in general can affect the ongoing plot to a certain extent. As such he may take two personalities depending on these decisions:

  • Moralist: The captain cares a lot about his crew and others, and want to win this war with his principles intact.
  • Pragmatic: The captain wants to win the war at any cost, even if it means sending some of his crew to their deaths.

Bio[ | ]

Kayto Shields is a commissioned officer with the rank of captain in the Cera Space Force, and the commanding officer of the Assault Carrier Sunrider. He lived at Cera City, together with his family, and attended high school together with the one that would become his First Officer, Ava Crescentia. At some point he enrolled in the Cera Space Force, where he was trained in order to successfully command the new class of ship that was supposed to revolutionize war, the Assault Carrier.

First Arrival[ | ]

However, the first day of his command, Cera swiftly fell against PACT forces in the Invasion of Cera. He managed to survive and escape the enemy with the Sunrider, but the attack successfully destroyed the military and civil command of Cera, and all surviving Cera forces surrendered. Refusing to do the same, the captain has since waged his particular war against PACT, making use of his considerable tactical prowess.

While as the most senior remaining officer in the Cera Space Forces he could use the title of "Commander of Free Cera Forces", Shields always introduces himself only as the captain of the Sunrider. This is probably due to the Sunrider being the only remains of the Cera Space Force.

Was noted to have a sister and both parents (all of unknown age), the three of them living until the Invasion of Cera. After that, their fate remains unknown (a thing which torments Shields nonstop).
